10:00am-10:50am How to Legally Ship Batteries: Inbound and Outbound  Updated Nov. 16, 2011
Speakers:

a. Peter Sveum, Project Manager, AllCell Technologies. Peter designs energy storage solutions using AllCell's patented passive thermal management phase change material. He possesses 5 years of experience in product development with a focus on thermal management of lithium-ion batteries and has a Professional Masters and B.Sc. in electrical engineering and a B.Sc. in computer engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

b. Chris Michalski, is the Senior Investigator, Office Of Hazardous Materials Safety, Field Operations, DOT. He has been working in the Pipeline and hazardous Materials Safety (PHMSA) Field Operations Eastern Region Office since 1995. During the past 16 years, he conducted over 1500 compliance inspections and field investigations of shippers of hazardous materials, manufacturers and testers of UN-standard packaging, indirect carriers, special permit holders and cylinder retesters.

Chris also frequently worked with issues involving international standards; therefore, he is well versed in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) regulations pertaining to transportation of hazardous materials and packaging requirements. On September 29, 2007, Chris was promoted to a Senior Investigator and appointed as the Regional Coordinator for the System Integrity Safety Program. Chris is also currently the Lead Member of PHMSA’s Lithium Battery Team.

Learn the basics of servicing an electric bike, a must for ebike owners, dealers and ebike companies.

a. Featuring Don Gerhardt , retired Ford, GM Ingersoll-Rand (Advanced Technology Director at Club Car) and his work included batteries, electric motors and electronic controllers. He has been developing a battery training program for community colleges and universities with LiFeBATT and the Danville VA Community College. Don approached LEVA about establishing a three level battery tech certification training program.
