Report on Belgium Postal Service and Electric Bikes Nov. 25, 2011
LEVA's EU Partner, ETRA, Responds to the Belgian press report on two incidents with electric bicycles at Bpost, the Belgian postal services where according to the reports, the batteries caught fire but further details have not been disclosed yet. Read the full response here.

LEVA Member Susanne Bruesch Starts Pedelec Adventure Tours!




In February 2011, journalist, LEVA Member and Pedelec Adventures initiator Susanne Bruesch and German electric bike dealer Sebastian Plog set off on a cross-country expedi­tion through Morocco’s spectacular desert and alpine landscape to show what’s possible with speed pedelecs. Their “Tour de Sahara” took them on a trip of almost 2000 km (1243 miles) over the Atlas mountains and through the Sahara desert on 45km/h (28mph) pedelecs towing solar trailers to recharge the batteries.  Pedelec Adventures project, Tour de Sahara, was awarded as one of the most interesting projects in 2011. The jury of THE Spanish online magazine on e-mobility www.vehiculosverdes.com and its producers Red Giga chose Tour de Sahara because… The project presents electric bikes from a practical point of view and is a tough test for pedelec models and the technical accessories that extend the vehicles' applications. With magnificent photos, journalist and Pedelec Adventures initiator Susanne Bruesch reports about the team's riding experience and accompanies her reports with impressions of spectacular scenary and the excellent hospitality of the locals.  Read more.

SCHWEINFURT, Germany - There's something very special appearing on the horizon of the e-bike market. It's SRAM's drive system for electric bicycles. The SRAM E2 Electric-Assist System is launched today at the start of the Taichung Bike Week in Taiwan. LEVA Optibike, the US based manufacturer of the world's top hill climbing electric bike, introduced their latest electric bike by dominating the field at the 2011 Pikes Peak Hill Climb Event. The new 48v Optibike 1100R, propelled the 7 member Team Optibike to finish the world's premiere E-bike event in 1-7th places, with the 8th place electric bike taking almost 3x as long to summit the 14,110ft mountain.
