Taipei Cycle Show and LEVA Activities
The Taipei Cycle Show held at the Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall on March 16-18, was the show's largest ever, with 3,050 booths and 32,388 buyers. Despite fewer visitors from Germany and France due to radiation fears and a number of cancellations particularly from the eastern part of Japan, organizers from the Taiwan External Trade Development Council reported 3,823 international visitors after the Grand Opening Ceremony on March 16, an increase from 2010.
The Light Electric Vehicle Association held a member meeting during the show with Chairman Ed Benjamin moderating a discussion that included the work of the LEVA Committee on Performance Standards headed by Dave Guzik of Trek. LEVA members exhibiting were Clean Mobile (www.clean-mobile.com), Hoganas (www.hoganas.com), Simplo Technologies (www.simplo.com.tw), HiTech Energy (www.htenergy.com.tw), Dahon (www.dahon.ca), Fairly Bikes, and Focus Bikes (www.focus-bikes.com). LEVA members Motor Excellence (www.motorexcellence.com) and Accelerated Systems Inc. (www.accelerated-systems.com) had electric bikes available on the test track showcasing their motor and controller, respectively.
LEVA also co-hosted a dinner with ITRI, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, as well as the Taipei Power Forum. We had over 100 people attend the VIP and LEVA Networking Dinner where people from all over the globe had a chance to relax and talk with others in our same marketplace. First U.S. E-Bike Sharing System to Debut with LEVA Member Currie Technology
KNOXVILLE, TN (BRAIN)-The first e-bike sharing system in the U.S. could be unveiled as early as this fall at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. The small-scale pilot program will consist of 15 of Currie's pedal-assist trekking-style bikes and five hybrid, traditional Marin bikes with no batteries. Chris Cherry, assistant professor at the university's civil and environmental engineering department, came up with the idea a year ago as a course project for one of his classes.
