November 2011, Nagano Japan

Team Prominence, working mainly for participating solar car race events in Japan, is going to exhibit "Prominence Commuting Device " (P.C.D.)  that is a small electromobility model at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011.  View pictures here.

The P.C.D. is a battery powered electric vehicle single seater that has an ultra lightweight and compact structure. Because the P.C.D. has a licence plate as a moped car, it can be driving on public roadway in Japan. The P.C.D. can run at a maximum speed of 75km/h, and driving range of 90km with fully battery charged.

The power consumption of the P.C.D. is less than 1 / 10 of an electric vehicles on the market. As a result, the rate of greenhouse gas emission is less than passenger railway vehicle in Japan, taking into consideration of the greenhouse gas emissions from power generation process. Which is of course, there are no emissions while driving it.

The P.C.D. is made of off-the-shelf parts available on the general market. Its traction motor is a hub motor for e-bike and its body and chassis are in common with a human powered vehicle. So you can build the same vehicle yourself!

Team Prominence exhibited the P.C.D at the Annual Conference of IEEJ, Industrial Applications Society held in August 2010 and made presentation of the performance test results of the P.C.D. at the 6th meeting of the Institute of Life Cycle Assessment, Japan held in March 2011.

This exhibition at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011 is performed followed by these conferences.

The P.C.D research project started in April 2009, under the 8th environmental NPO grant of Hitachi Environment Foundation.
In addition, this research project is also supported by National Instruments Japan Corporation and The Furukawa Battery Co. Ltd.
